The DMV is expanding the hours during which the online interactive eLearning course and the remote knowledge test are available. These services, previously with more restricted windows, are now designed to accommodate the working schedules of Californians. The goal is to reduce wait times at field offices and allow applicants to complete the theoretical portion of their license application from the comfort of their homes.

One of the most popular features is the "no-fail" eLearning course. Unlike the traditional pass/fail test, this interactive course guides users through seven modules including quizzes after each section. If a user struggles with a section, they can review the material and try again, making it an educational tool rather than just an examination. This option is fully available in Spanish and is ideal for those who may have test anxiety.

Requirements and Security / Requisitos y Seguridad

To access the online testing options, applicants must verify their identity using ID.me or a similar verification service approved by the DMV. Once verified, the test can be taken on a computer with a webcam (tablets and mobile devices are not currently supported for the proctored test). The service is available Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
